Senior accounting major William N’Doua was part of a team that recently won first place in the “Project Run With It” competition at the 2015 Beta Alpha Psi Annual Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Beta Alpha Psi is an honor organization for financial information students and professionals with over 300 chapters on college and university campuses.
Each year at the Beta Alpha Psi annual meeting, ‘Project Run With It’ is a competition designed to promote the community service component of Beta Alpha Psi and provides students an opportunity to engage in an actual business consulting project. It was an intense undertaking in which 18 teams of four students had a day and a half to develop a formal presentation showcasing their solution to the business issues of various non-profit organizations in Wisconsin. William was one of only 72 students from all the Beta Alpha Psi chapters around the world selected to participate in the competition.
William’s team was tasked with assisting the Wisconsin Women’s Business Initiative Corporation (WWBIC) with developing a robust client feedback system as part of its 2014-2017 strategic plan. WWBIC is a statewide economic development corporation that assists people interested in starting, strengthening, or expanding businesses. It provides them with access to necessary resources and tools such as financial assistance and financial and business education.
William’s team won by offering real solutions to WWBIC’s problems. “There was no magic bullet,” N’Doua said. “The other teams concentrated on making their presentations nice and having nice PowerPoint slides. We focused on the contents of the proposal.” WWBIC intends to use the ideas presented by William’s team in their strategic plan. Quinnipiac’s Beta Alpha Psi chapter will receive a plaque with William’s name on it, and a $1,000 award.
