The following Quinnipiac School of Business Professors recently were granted tenure:

Nelson Alino, associate professor of accounting, earned a Ph.D. in accounting from the University of South Carolina. He also has his MBA and bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Nigeria. He joined the faculty in 2009.


Surya Chelikani, associate professor of finance, has a Ph.D. in finance in the area of market microstructure from Oklahoma State University. He also holds an MBA from the University of Central Oklahoma and a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Andhra University. He joined the faculty in 2009.

Incoming freshmen recently had the opportunity to get “on board” the Quinnipiac School of Business 3+1 program during a team-building session at Riverfront Adventure.

Our incoming students enjoyed paddling down the Connecticut River on dragon boats and getting to know both their peers and faculty advisors in a fun, interactive environment.

During the trip, students participated in various activities that put their problem solving, communication, and leadership skills to the test.

The hybrid 3+1 BS/MBA program allows students to complete both their undergraduate and MBA degrees in the four-year time period generally required for the bachelor’s degree alone. The accelerated format provides substantial savings of both time and money for students and their families.

Annual meeting participants attended a Milwaukee Brewers game

Officers and advisors of Quinnipiac University’s Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) Nu Alpha chapter recently attended the 2015 BAP Annual Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The theme of this year’s meeting was Developing Our Future, reflecting BAP’s mission of advancing student success in the financial information profession. Each year the annual meeting provides an opportunity for BAP members to network, learn and compete. BAP members also participate in a meaningful community service day, deemed the ‘BAP International Day of Literacy’. In addition, BAP members collected and donated school supplies which were distributed to children throughout Milwaukee.

During the community service day, QU’s BAP officers distributed books at local schools and organizations, and taught young children about the importance of literacy. Officers Paige Cantwell (President), Amanda Thompson (Director of Professional Activities), and Bridget Sherwin (National Reporting Officer) visited a local Boys and Girls Club where they led students—ranging in age from 5 to 11—through a literacy fair, played literacy games with students, and distributed new books.

In addition to the International Day of Literacy, chapter officers and advisors attended break-out sessions covering various topics, including the CPA exam and fundraising strategies. The information they learned will be shared with Quinnipiac’s other BAP members, and used to strengthen Quinnipiac’s chapter in the upcoming academic year.

The School of Business recently held an International Experience information session to notify students about their travel opportunities in 2016. Trips are available to both undergraduate and graduate business students. The short-course great wallexperiences being offered this year include:

January Term: Nicaragua (u/g & grad), Turkey (u/g), South Korea/Japan (u/g)

Spring Break: Dominican Republic (u/g), Peru (grad)

Summer Term: China (grad), France/Germany (grad), Hungary/Poland (grad)

All trips are coordinated by the School of Business, in conjunction with The Office of Cultural and Global Engagement and established travel vendor partners. The trips are led by School of Business faculty members.

Many graduate students in the MBA Healthcare Management track spent their summers interning at various healthcare related placements. Recent graduate from the School of Health Sciences ‘15, Erika Edlund, had the opportunity to intern at a national healthcare consulting company, Qualidgm.

Located in Wethersfield, Qualidigm provides consulting services in various settings such as hospitals, outpatient care, home care, and long-term care. Edlund worked alongside President and CEO Tim Elwell as well as Consulting Director Deb Quetti, to complete valuable market research on each of the fifty states Medicaid programs in order to assist with strategic planning for business expansion. Professor Angela Mattie, who sits on Qualidigm’s board of directors, appreciates the opportunity for Erika.  “Qualidgm’s leadership are excellent mentors/advisors to our students.”

Edlund says her experience at Qualidigm taught her valuable “hands-on” lessons that are unable to be taught in the classroom. “My internship experience at Qualidigm was incredible to say the least. The lessons I learned, the people I met, and the projects I worked on throughout the past eleven weeks have only further solidified my passion and drive to begin a career in the healthcare management field.” Edlund hopes to pursue a career in the healthcare consulting field upon graduating with her MBA in May 2016.
