Brianna Grantelli, Francis Kissi and Sierra Pacholski, students in the MBA-HCM track, successfully completed their project on “Connecticut Patient Safety Initiatives along the Continuum of Care.” The project is part of the HM 621 Healthcare Quality/Patient Safety course taught by Angela Mattie, Associate Professor and department Chair of Healthcare Management and Organizational Leadership. The objective of the students’ project was to consider, by way of analysis, how to determine what patient safety and initiatives are being taken in Connecticut in various realms of healthcare. Students identified numerous healthcare inititatives in Connecticut; some of their analysis focused on community health centers, foundations, goverment, home health care agencies, hospitals and long-term care facilities. Also, of interest to the designers of the project was patient safety in public-private relationships. One of their preliminary recommendations is that further evaluation focuses on adverse event reporting, medication management and transitions in care, and culture change through the implementation of high reliability training programs along the healthcare continuum.
