Deirdre Farrell was a star student in the MBA-HCM program, according to Professor Angela Mattie. Diedre has been an analyst at NYU Langone Medical Center for slightly over three months, and she is currently work in the Central Billing Office in the Faculty Group Practice.
The Faculty Group Practice is a group of over 1,000 physicians in various locations around New York. “In my role I do a variety of data analysis and financial reporting,” Deirdre explained, “including looking at the daily charges and payments for all of our practices; analyzing our fee schedules with different payers and plans to ensure we are being reimbursed properly; and running a variety of reports through the reporting tool of our electronic medical record.” She also looks at patient volume, their payer mix, and the overall financial health of their practices.
According to Deirdre, Quinnipiac has given her the skills to build a strong background in financial analysis, and to fully understand the complex structure of the healthcare industry. Not only that, but she attributes her confidence in presenting her findings to upper level management in weekly meetings, which they utilize in strategic decision making, to her MBA-HCM courses. Deirdre stated, “I have learned many new things about hospital administration and the general management of billing and financial aspects of a medical center.”
